The firm acts for over 200 healthcare clients, including NHS Trusts and Health Authorities, regulatory bodies, charities and independent healthcare providers and has over 150 lawyers focusing on the health and social care sectors across its offices in London, Birmingham and Leeds.

They are seeking a part-time Medical Claims Handler to work as part of that team on medico legal work, to be based in Great Yarmouth. Supervision and support will be provided by our lawyers based in Leeds/London, although the successful applicant will also be encouraged to use their own initiative in some tasks.

£6,570 pa for 14.5 hours per week (£17,000 FTE)

Flexibility is possible over the hours/days worked, but working hours and days to be fixed. Core office hours are 9.00am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday.

Candidates must be proactive, self motivated and well organised with administration experience. You will have excellent communication skills and be IT literate.

The main role and responsibilities will include:-

• Dealing with disclosure of medical records to Claimant solicitors;
• Preparation of preliminary analyses and claim report forms;
• Liaison with the NHSLA Claims Manager and/or Trust panel solicitors, which may require further discussion with clinicians and provision of further copy set of notes for experts and panel solicitors;

Candidates should ideally be educated to degree/similar level and have experience of:

• Handling claims in a proactive and client-focused manner within set service levels (minimum 12 months experience is ideal);
• Assisting, where applicable, lawyers in negotiating and settling claims fairly and promptly;
• Dealing with disclosure of medical records to solicitors;
• Preparing preliminary analyses/claim report forms;
• Liaising/working with the NHSLA and/or Trust/Panel firms;
• Working in a similar clinical negligence arena and/or on medical mal practice cases would be a distinct advantage;
• Working unsupervised and able to show initiative in their claims handling approach.
